Bio Relais Alezio, near Gallipoli
Surrounded by six and half hectares of olive trees, on the hill top of Alezio’s countryside, near Gallipoli, Tenuta Monticelli is neither a classic farmhouse nor a typical local masseria, rather a bio-relais. Immersed in the brilliant and unique country colours of Salento and surrounded by 450 secular trees, whose trunks resemble natural sculptures, it dominates the Gallipoli Bay, only 3 km away.
Preserving the identity of the place, a typical Salento farmhouse dated back to 19th century, has been the owner’s goal who has managed to keep the intimacy and charming original design of the house, while creating a new space to welcome guests from around the world.
The original five tuff-vaulted rooms, fireplaces and underground granaries for the wheat storage are now a welcoming Country House Hotel with a simple modern design and minimal furniture.
Guests are welcomed into the star-shaped vault, which opens into a spacious room with a fireplace as well as windows overlooking the beautiful countryside.

Sea lovers
For sea lovers there is available a full plan of activities for a completely unforgettable experience during your stay: from diving to kite surfing, from fishing to boat excursions or visit to the caves. Certainly, you cannot miss exploring the attractive Gallipoli fortress town on board a sailing ship or the small St. Andrea Island on board a retro yacht.
Just 1 mile away from Gallipoli with a tall lighthouse dated back to 19th century and surrounded by hundreds of Audouin’s gulls, St. Andrea Island is a must-see of the area. The island is accessible only with a tourist guide since it is in the protected area of Regional Nature Park characterized by lush Mediterranean vegetation, rare plant species and traces of the Neolithic. Salento in Barca organizes several boat tours to the island. Once on shore, Maurizio Manna of Legambiente will entertain your tour with stories and legends about this place. Another must-do is the grotto’s tour organized by Grotte in tour, departing from Torre Vado.
An interesting sea tour to discover the Ionian Karsic caves from San Gregorio to Santa Maria di Leuca, such as Grotta delle Tre Porte (The Three Doors Cave) and Grotta del Drago (Dragon’s Cave). The tour continues on to the Mannute Cave on the Adriatic Sea, on the opposite coast side.
